The I MV-4000 linear array MCT detector combined with a high-speed scanning FTIR, precision auto-stage, and parallel data process i ng enables mapping measurement of u p to 9,600points pe r minute. Measurement can be made up to 100 times faster than conventional mapping measurements made using a single element detector. FT/IR-4000 and 6000 Series Spectrometers When using a single-eleme n t detector to measu r e sa m ples i n wh i c h there a r e mu l t i ple components, i t may be difficult to identify a single compone n t in an obse r ved i mage because the compone n ts may be no n -uniform l y distributed and it is likely that multiple components wi ll be measured simu lt a n eously. In the case where a spectrum i s a n aggregate of several components , and when qual i tative analysis i s made using a l i brary sea r ch program it ca n be d i f f icult to accurately separa t e and analyze each component because t h e database of spectral l i brar i es are usual l y comprised of single components. I t is possible to perform mapping measurements and separate mult i ple f oreign substances using a single-element detector with a nar r ow apertu r e and l ong accumula t i ons, bu t it can take an extreme l y long time to identify all the components . A li n ea r a r ray FT I R microscope can quickly perform wide area mapping measu r ements for the characterization of biological samples, multilaye r films and others types of samples, and it can ef fi c i en t ly separate mult i ple components tha t a r e closely spatially distributed by using a very small measu r ement ape r ture. I n this application note, an I MV-4000was used to perform IR mapping of foreign substances contaminating a resi n sample. After mapping measurement wa s performed, a library search prog r am was used to analyze the c h aracteristic spectra obtained in the map. Three components were i dentified: cellulose, polyester, and organic silicon .JASCO's mapping analysis program was used to c r eate image maps of the measured area based on the height or area of the peaks i n the spectra , as well as simultaneously visua l izing multiple image maps in an RGB display; t h is fu n ction was used to confirm the distribution of the th r ee components by over l aying a 3D-colored view of each key band.
