    第21楼2010/04/15

    2010.04.14 China Daily 40 min 昨天下了飞机就去吃饭,再去K歌。北京的同事们真是厉害,闹腾到十二点。还好我聪明,怕晚上没时间做self-training,在飞机上看了几篇China Daily上的文章,哈哈哈。发现“关系”这个词已经以拼音的形式(guanxi)出现在China Daily上,也不知是该为汉语的影响力而高兴,还是为中国的陋习为世界所熟知而悲哀。

    heads up 当心

Line manager转给我们一封其他同事关于US CPP(美国药品证明书)讨论的邮件,转发时高屋建瓴地加了一句:A heads-up for US CPP.

    刚才搜了一下。呵呵,不搜不知道,一搜吓一跳。原来guanxi已经成为代表中国特色的词语之一,国外还有专门的网站来介绍guanxi。看看老外是怎么描述中国人的“关系”吧。

    Chinese Business Culture

Guanxi, An Important Chinese Business Element

“Guanxi” literally means "relationships", stands for any type of relationship. In the Chinese business world, however, it is also understood as the network of relationships among various parties that cooperate together and support one another. The Chinese businessmen mentality is very much one of "You scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours." In essence, this boils down to exchanging favors, which are expected to be done regularly and voluntarily. Therefore, it is an important concept to understand if one is to function effectively in Chinese society.
    http://chinese-school.netfirms.com/guanxi.html

Guanxi describes the basic dynamic in personalized networks of influence, and is a central idea in Chinese society. In Western media, the pinyin romanization of this Chinese word is becoming more widely used instead of the two common translations—"connections" and "relationships"—as neither of those terms sufficiently reflects the wide cultural implications that guanxi describes.
Closely related concepts include that of ganqing, a measure which reflects the depth of feeling within an interpersonal relationship, renqing, the moral obligation to maintain the relationship, and the idea of "face", meaning social status, propriety, prestige, or more realistically a combination of all three.
