I just heard that the max current of FEG in my department (FEI Nova 600 NanoLab) is actually higher than that of W gun. is it possible?

场发射也分冷场和热场,热场束流比冷场大但还是小于钨灯丝电子枪。也许你说的“higher than that of W gun ”指的是“亮度”。看下面这张比较表就知道了。

束流大其实并不是我们的目的,当然束流大意味着激发出的xray信号也更多,做能谱更容易。但其实我们从材料的角度来说,我们更关注的是空间分辨率。我们希望的是,在束流足够低或者束斑足够小的情况下,能谱能够接受到足够多的信号去做元素分析。
因此,场发射在这个方面是较w灯丝高级很多。
