    Determination of Carbendazim, Thiophanate-methyl and Benomyl in Agricultural Products by HPLC

    Abstract;
    A determination method of carbendazim (MBC), thiophanate-methyl (TM), and benomyl (BM) in agricultural products by using HPLC was investigated. MBC, TM and BM were extracted with methanol from homogenates of agricultural products. The methanol extract was evaporated down to ca. 70mL, and 100mL of 10% sodium chloride solution added, and defatted by n-hexane partitioning. The three compounds were extracted with ethyl acetate-n-hexane (1:1) from the aqueous layer and adjusted to pH6-7. BM was hydrolyzed to MBC while being extracted with methanol. TM in the ethyl acetate-n-hexane (1:1) extract was converted to MBC by refluxing at 120.DEG.C., for 30min with copper acetate in 50% acetic acid. For tea samples, the three compounds were cleaned up using Bond Elut PSA after refluxing with copper acetate. Total concentration of BM, TM and MBC were measured as that of MBC by HPLC. Recoveries at the 0.10.MU.g/g level were more than 70% from agricultural products except for some crops. The detection limits were 0.01.MU.g/g in all samples, except for tea where the limit was 0.05.MU.g/g. (author abst.)
