INTRODUCTION Urinary oxalate was successfully detennined by ion chromatography with suppressed conductivity detection. Ion chromatography using ~ IonPac@AS4A anion chro- matographic column is a method recognized by the U.S. Pharmacopaeia (USP) for detennining oxalate in calcium gluconate! This method can be perfonned in less than 10 minutes. Since the analysis is perfonned at pH 9.2, the decomposition of urinary ascorbate to oxalate is minimized. The analysis is selective, rapid, sensitive, and requires no sample pretreatment other than dilution. . The measurement of oxalate in urine is important in the diagnosis of hereditary and enteric hyperoxaluria and in the evaluation and management of patients with urinary ~alculi ("stones"). Calculi are deposited chemicals in compact fonn, and these concretions are frequently found in the urinary tract.
