Raman Scattering

The article gives a short overview of the theory of Raman scattering and our results of the experimental configuration of my lab partner Lorenzo Trojan and me. For the CCl4 sample we measured the Raman energy shifts, which were symmetrical to the elastic scattering peak. The biggest deviation from the symmetry was 51cm−1 or about 6% of the energy of the photons of the line. We clearly discovered the breathing peak at 451cm−1 (Stokes line), well agreeing with the theory (456cm−1). The intensity of (only) this peak increased by a factor of 9.3 ± 0.4, when changing the polarization from vertical to horizontal polarized laser light.
