This method describes a procedure for isolating target organic analytes from aqueous samples using solid-phase extraction media. The method describes conditions for extracting organochlorine pesticides and phthalate esters from aqueous matrices including groundwater, wastewater, and TCLP leachates using disk extraction media. Performance data for these extractions are provided in Method 8081 (organochlorine pesticides) and Method 8061 (phthalate esters). The technique may also be applicable to semivolatiles and other extractable compounds. Other solid-phase extraction media configurations, e.g., SPE cartridges, may be employed provided that the laboratory demonstrates adequate performance for the analytes of interest.
