2.1 Samples are prepared by liquid:liquid extraction with organic solvent in field sampling containers. Careful manipulation of the sample, solvent, and spiking solutions during the procedure minimizes loss of volatile compounds while maximizing extraction of volatile, semivolatile, and nonvolatile compounds. 2.2 Since volatile compounds are included in the method, their extraction from water requires special handling and particular attention to detail.
