OVERVIEW
Superposition flows in rheology are powerful methods to understand non-linear and anisotropic viscoelasticity. Parallel Superposition experiments have been historically simple to perform, but are difficult to understand and do not provide all of the desired information. Recent developments have made Orthogonal Superposition more simple to perform, allowing for enhanced understanding of nonlinear viscoelasticity, flow-induced anisotropy, thixotropy, and more.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
JAN VERMANT is professor and chair of Chemical Engineering at the KU Leuven, University of Leuven in Belgium. His research focuses on the interfacial rheology of complex fluid-fluid interfaces and bulk rheology of colloidal suspensions, at each time focusing on linking structure and rheology. The development of experimental methodologies and techniques is key to his work. He is author of more than 100 peer reviewed publications in the area of rheology and soft matter. He currently serves the European editor for Rheologica Acta. He has been the recipient of a Dupont Young Faculty Award (2002-2004), The 2007 FWO-Exxon Mobil European Chemical Science and Engineering Award and the Journal of Rheology publication award in 2008. He has held visiting appointments at Stanford University, the University of Delaware, Princeton University and the ESCPI. |
