树枝状聚合物,又称树枝化聚合物,是每个重复单元上带有树枝化基元(dendron)的线状聚合物。树枝状聚合物的合成主要存在两种路线:大单体路线和attach-to路线。在大单体路线中,首先合成包含树枝化基元的大单体,然后进行聚合。在attach-to路线中,首先合成聚合物主链,然后一代接一代的添加树枝化基元,直到特定的代数。图三用简单的卡通图说明了两者的区别。大单体路线通常较难得到较长的聚合物主链,尤其当树枝化基元代数比较高的时候。Attach-to路线通常不可避免的在合成的树枝状聚合物中引入结构缺陷。
