LEARN ABOUT THE ATCC GENOME PORTAL
Enterovirus A71 strain BrCr is propagated in Vero cells (ATCC CCL-81). This strain was originally isolated from the stool specimen of a 2-month-old male with aseptic meningitis and was derived by passage in Vero cells. It has applications in enteric disease research.

Comments
Derived by passage of ATCC VR-784 in Vero cells (ATCC CCL-81). This product replaces ATCC VR-784 and exhibits CPE when cells are infected.
Note: The sequences of ATCC VR-784 and ATCC VR-1775 have not been compared.

Handling information
Host
Vero (ATCC CCL-81)
Effects
CPE; cell degeneration; cell rounding; cell sloughing
Complete medium
EMEM (ATCC 20-2003) + 2% FBS (ATCC 30-2020)
Temperature
37°C
Atmosphere
95% Air, 5% CO2
Incubation
Incubate infected culture for 5-9 days at 37°C in a humidified 5% CO2 atmosphere, until CPE are well advanced through 90% of the culture.
Recommendation for infection
Plant cells 24-48 hours in advance and infect when cultures are 70-80% confluent. Remove medium, wash cell monolayer once with PBS, and inoculate with a small volume (eg. 1 mL per cm2) of virus diluted to provide a MOI of about 0.1. Adsorb 1-2 hours at 37°C in a humidified 5% CO2 atmosphere. End adsorption by adding virus growth medium.
Handling notes
Derived by passage of ATCC VR-784 in Vero cells (ATCC CCL-81). This product will replace ATCC VR-784. (Note: The sequences of ATCC VR-784 and ATCC VR-1775 have not been compared).
