7500D Autosampling Headspace Inlet
The 7500D Headspace Autosampler is only large volume headspace autosampler available that is designed to accomodate sample vials up to 1L in volume. The 7500D features Entech’s exclusive “septumless” MicroValve sample handling approach that allows samples to be maintained under pressure or vacuum while awaiting analysis. Vacuum-tight, MicroValve sample vials are indespensable tools for both Large Volume Static Heaspace analysis – (LVSH), as well as vacuum extraction techniques such as Pulsed Vacuum Extraction Headspace (PVEH) – which decreases equilibration time while maximizing recovery of heavy and polar compounds. Unlike older, dynamic concentration techniques, PVEH analysis with the 7500D places no limitation upon the viscosity of a product. Aerosol formation is eliminated and transfer lines remain clean. Sample volumes are also no longer limited by a small sample syringe. The 7500D inlet extracts a sample through either a loop, preconcentration trap, or the 7150D’s “Active SPME” system to inject an exact, known quantity of sample–every time.Interchangeable sample trays allow sample vials as small as 20mL or as large as 1000mL to be utilized to optimize productivity, statistical accuracy, and sensitivity.
Complete Measurement of Headspace Components
The operation of the 7500D is simple, yet elegant. The 7500D features a Silonite-D coated and deactivated ” stainless steel transfer line that is inserted through a sample container’s MicroValve™ tting to allow ow to either a loop injection valve or to the “Active SPME” trap in the 7150D Headspace Preconcentrator. Direct insertion of the end of the transfer line into the sample headspace virtually eliminates any dead volume or exposure to active surfaces. Prior to headspace extraction, sample vials can be delivered to either a static or mixing oven – designed for rapid sample / headspace equilibration. The 7500D also provides options for multiple tray congurations and canister heating. Note: Only the 13 position ambient tray and 13 position cooled tray currently support oven heating capability. Tray inserts are available however to accomodate up to 70: 20, 40, or 60ml vials using either the static or mixing oven. (See page 12)
Gas Phase Sample Analysis
The ability to analyze gas phase collected samples extends the usefulness of headspace analysis to include “remote headspace” techniques. Once a liquid or solid is characterized, it may only be necessary to retrieve the headspace during sampling. This simplies sampling in closed systems (tanks, storage bins, drums, rail cars, trucks, etc.) to determine an “average” headspace concentration inside the container. is provides the ultimate system for statistical accuracy when dealing with heterogeneous materials because it tests the system as a whole.
Remote sampling containers are available in amber glass or Silonite coated stainless steel to keep the headspace components intact prior to analysis. Unlike thermal desorption tubes that only recover stable alkanes and aromatics to C25, Entech canisters can store virtually all GC-compatible analytes. Gas phase samples can be heated as high as 150°C during analysis to recover C1–C25 compounds from the container.
