IAEA-S-4 (Soufre de Lacq) is elemental sulfur derived from natural gas and was prepared by E. Roth, Centre d’Etudes Nucléaires de Saclay, France. It served as international reference material for more than 20 years, before its distribution was terminated by IAEA because of doubts about its isotopic homogeneity. New studies have demonstrated its homogeneity and suitability as reference material [1,2]. The isotopic values of the reference material IAEA-S-4 are the results of the statistical evaluation of interlaboratory comparisons.
