这场纪念研讨会的召开,是为了纪念一位色谱领域杰出的科学家——Dr. Andrew J. Alpert。

你可能对他的名字不够熟悉,但我相信你对他为色谱学界做出的卓越贡献肯定不陌生。上世纪90年代,他首次提出了亲水作用色谱(HILIC)的概念,并将其引入了常规的液相色谱分离领域。

Alpert博士,是一位杰出的科学家、热心的导师、忠诚的合作者,是色谱界的传奇人物。

他也是一位才华横溢的艺术家、精通4种语言的语言学家、音乐家(钢琴家)、运动健将(撑杆跳)、厨师、自然主义者,而在所有这些之前,他是一个深受爱戴的丈夫、父亲、兄弟和5个孩子的祖父。

他影响了很多人的生活,无论何时,他总是愿意停下手头的工作,去帮助他人。

    Genomic and EST sequencing projects are providing a sequence infrastructure that is changing how protein biochemistry is practiced. These data along with mass spectrometry provide the cornerstone technologies fueling the proteomics revolution. Our group is focused on developing tools and strategies in proteomics to answer basic biological questions. By coupling the additional amino acid sequence information that can be obtained using peptide tandem mass spectrometry to "back-end" database searching and "front-end" separative techniques, we are able to directly analyze extremely complex protein mixtures. The applications for these technologies vary from analyzing purified protein complexes to studying host-pathogen interactions in diseases such as malaria or anthrax. We are further extending these applications to find post-translational modifications to the proteins within these same complex mixtures.

    Dr. Yan-Bo Yang has over 30 years of extensive experiences in chemical analysis and purification for small molecules and large biologics. Dr. Yang is an expert in chromatography theory, column technology, application development, and method development/validation. Dr. Yang is the founder and founding president (1st and 2nd terms, 2008-2012) of Chinese American Chromatography Association (CACA). Dr. Yang is one of the authors for the 1st published paper on Perfusion Chromatography and one of the inventors for the POROS® Chromatography Resins. Dr. Yang is the author of the 1st published paper discussing about the hydrophilic interaction separations. Dr. Yang founded BioPharmaDev, Inc.( www.biopharmadev.com) in 2012 providing chemical analysis and product development services for life-science industries. Before BioPharmaDev, Inc. Dr. Yang was Director at B. Braun Medical, responsible for all aspects of pharmaceutical developments. Prior to B.     Dr. Yi He is a professor of chemistry at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, the City University of New York, and the current president of Chinese American Chromatography Association (CACA). Dr. He studied applied chemistry and environmental chemical engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China and analytical chemistry in National University of Singapore (NUS) before completing her Ph.D. in analytical chemistry at the City University of New York (CUNY). Dr He’s research mainly focus on analytical method development and their applications to forensic and environmental analysis. She has established extensive collaborations with researchers working in the fields of environmental science and engineering, criminology, public health, and sociology.

    Aihua Liu, Ph.D., is the Senior Director of Bioanalysis in Resolian. She holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, an M.S. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, and a B.S. in Pharmacy. She has five years of postdoctoral training in Biochemistry. Prior to joining Alliance Pharma, she was the Director of R&D and Chromatography in Dyad Labs after serving as the Team Lead of the bioanalytical method development group at Tandem Labs/Covance in Salt Lake City.Dr. Liu has more than 15 years of experience in bioanalysis.     Dr. Guo is currently Professor of Pharmaceutical Science, and Chair of Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU). Dr. Guo holds a Ph.D degree in Analytical Chemistry from the State University of New York at Buffalo as well as a MBA degree in Pharmaceutical Management from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Prior to his academic career, Dr. Guo spent about 15 years in drug development in the pharmaceutical industry and contributed to the development and FDA approval of a few innovative drugs. His research interest focuses on retention mechanisms in HILIC, quality assessment of herbal medicine preparations, in-vitro drug release and drug stability and degradation mechanisms.

    Professor Xiang Zhang received his B.S. in Radiochemistry from Lanzhou University (Lanzhou, China) in 1989 and his M.S. in Nuclear Physics from Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (Lanzhou, China) in 1992. He joined Purdue University (West Lafayette, Indiana) in 1996, and received his Ph.D. degree in Analytical Chemistry in 2001. After his graduation, Dr. Zhang joined Beyond Genomics, Inc., a systems biology company in Boston, to develop bioanalytical and bioinformatics platforms for disease biomarker discovery and validation. In 2004, Dr. Zhang returned to the Purdue University as a Research Assistant Professor and Lead Scientist at the Bindley Bioscience Center, to continue his research foci on biological data management, data integration and data mining for large scale proteomics and metabolomics research. He joined the Department of Chemistry at the University of Louisville (Louisville, Kentucky) as an Associate Professor in 2008 and was promoted to Professor in 2011. Dr. Zhang also serves as an Associate Faculty member of the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology and the Director of the Center for Regulatory and Environmental Analytical Metabolomics (CREAM) at the University of Louisville. His research centers on molecular systems biology by developing high throughput bioanalytical methods and bioinformatics tools for the analyses of complex mixtures derived from living systems. Dr. Zhang published 198 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters. He also received multiple research awards in his career.

    Dr. Ying Ge is a Professor in the Department of Cell and Regenerative Biology and Department of Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin (UW)-Madison. She received a B.S. from Peking University (Beijing, China) in 1997 and a Ph.D. from Cornell University under the joint supervision of Prof. Fred McLafferty and Prof. Tadhg Begley in 2002. After graduate school, Dr. Ge explored a career in pharmaceutical industry first as a scientist at Wyeth Research (now Pfizer) working in a multi-disciplinary drug discovery team and then as a group leader in PPD, Inc. where she contributed to the characterization of protein drugs in a GMP environment. In 2006, she joined UW-Madison as the Director of Mass Spectrometry in the Human Proteomics Program. In 2012, Dr. Ge started her tenure-track Assistant Professor position, received tenure in 2015, and was promoted to Full Professor in 2019. Dr. Ge’s research is highly interdisciplinary that cuts across the traditional boundaries of chemistry, biology, and medicine. By creatively integrating her expertise in mass spectrometry/proteomics with cardiac biology/medicine, she aims to develop and employ novel top-down proteomics strategies in conjunction with functional studies to gain new insights into the molecular mechanisms of cardiac disease and regeneration. It is her belief that to make significant impact in molecular medicine, it is necessary to combine technological advances with functional studies and bridge the silos between basic and translational/clinical research for precision medicine. Recently her lab has developed a multi-pronged approach to address the challenges in top-down proteomics in a comprehensive manner by developing new mass spectrometry-compatible surfactants for protein solubilization, novel materials and new strategies for multi-dimensional chromatography separation of proteins, novel nanomaterials for enrichment of low-abundance proteins. Additionally, her lab has been developing a comprehensive user-friendly software package for top-down proteomics. Dr. Ge has published 132 papers with several in high impact journals such as Nature Methods, Nature Communications, PNAS, JACS, and Circulation Research. Dr. Ge is passionate about education and is currently mentoring students from chemistry, biology and medicine.
