Beecherintroducedtheoriginalmanualtissuearrayerin1998.Withthisinstrumentitwasnowpossibleforthefirsttimetomakepreciselyorderedarraysofhundredsoftissuespecimens.Thesearraysweresosmallthatsamplingdidnotdamagetheoriginaltissueblocks,yetthespotswerelargeenoughtoprovidearepresentativeviewofthetissuemorphology.Sincethen,thetissuemicroarrayapproachhasbecomeincreasinglypopularforavarietyofapplicationsincludingantibodytestinganddiagnosticmarkerevaluationinclinicalpatientmaterials.Hundredsofscientificresearchpapersnowrefererencetheuseoftissuearraysortissuemicroarraysasapartofthematerialsandmethods. Beecherhascontinuedtoimprovetissuemicroarraytechnology.TheATA-27automatedarrayerisdesignedformakingconstructionofhigh-densitytissuemicroarrayblocksfast,accurateandreliable.Thesystemfeaturesasoftwareinterfaceforarraydesign,specimentracking,region-of-interestselection,andithasmultipleadjustableoptionstoconfigurearrayconstructiontomatchpracticallyanyspecimentypeandtissuecassettesize.TheMTA-IIproductlinebringsconvenienceandinnovativedesigntomanualarrayconstruction.SeeArrayersandAccessoriesfordescriptionofdifferenttissuemicroarrayproducts.
