...bringing you the next generation ofanalysers Woolworths'new Bunbury meat packing plant selects the MultiScan Series3000 Food Analyser for Chemical Lean Analysis. June 2012 Woolworths pack approximately one third of the meat sold through supermarkets in WA intheir new plant in Bunbury. Thousands of Chemical Lean (CL) analyses are required per yearon site and the traditional microwave methods are too slow， too labour intensive and canbe less accurate than required. In searching for an alternative CL testing procedure，Woolworths gave Next Instruments Pty Ltd， an Australian manufacturer of near infraredanalysers， an opportunity to demonstrate the MultiScan Series 3000 Food Analyser. After developing calibrations for CL in beef， pork and lamb from 45CL to 95CL using over onethousand meat samples provided by the Woolworth Bunbury site. Woolworths accepted theSeries 3000 Food Analyser as a suitable replacement for the existing procedure， howeverWoolworths required that the Series 3000 be AusMeat certified.Next Instruments putforward a proposal to AusMeat to validate the instruments suitability for measuring CL andafter an extensive trial conducted at Westons Technologies laboratory in Enfield， NSW， andsubmission of a study， AusMeat granted the Series 3000 Food Analyser approval in March2012. Jenny Marns， QA Manager， Woolworths Bunbury commented about the performance of theSeries 3000 Food Analyser. "It would normally take up to 7 minutes to complete a Chemical Lean test using the CSIRO'smicrowave method， but with the new MultiScan we can get results under3 minutes. Thisgives us the ability to give production the results quicker allowing them to make “real time"adjustments to the production and consequently giving us better yield management."
