Anelectronicnosewasusedforthedetectionofmaizeoiladulterationincamelliaseed oilandsesameoil.Theresultsofmultivariateanalysisofvarianceshowedthatthe sensorsignalsofdifferentkindsofoilaresignificantlydifferentfromeachother.Prin- cipalcomponentanalysis(PCA)cannotbeusedtodiscriminatetheadulterationof camelliaseedoil,butcanbeusedinthediscriminationofadulterationinsesameoil. Lineardiscriminantanalysis(LDA)ismoreeffectivethanPCAandcanbeusedin adulterationdiscriminationforbothcamelliaseedoilandsesameoil.Inordertocheck thediscriminativepowerofLDA,canonicaldiscriminantanalysiswasperformedas well.Acceptableresultswerealsoobtained:Theaccuracyofpredictionwas83.6%for camelliaseedoiland94.5%forsesameoil.Theartificialneuralnetwork(ANN)model wasusedtodetectthepercentageofadulterationincamelliaseedoilandsesameoil. Theresultsshowedthat,basedonANNasitspatternrecognitiontechnique,theelec- tronicnosecannotpredictthepercentageofadulterationincamelliaseedoil,butcan beusedinthequantitativedeterminationofadulterationinsesameoil.
