The thermoelectric effect is the relationship between thermal and electric. When a temperature difference is created on both sides of the device, carriers in material diffuse from the hot side to the cold side, which results in a voltage across the device. Conversely, when a voltage is applied, heat is transferred from one side to the other, a temperature gradient is created. The thermoelectric effect generally consists of three effects, Seebeck effect, Peltier effect, and Thomason effect.
