The He lab in the Department of Molecular Biosciences at Northwestern University seeks highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researchers to work at the interfaces of cryo-EM and gene regulation or DNA repair. In the latest ranking by U.S.News, Northwestern University ranks #9 in the United States and #24 in the world.

Dr. He received his PhD in Biochemistry and Biophysics from Prof. Ishwar Radhakrishnan’s lab at Northwestern University. Dr. He conducted his postdoctoral training in Prof. Eva Nogales’ lab at UC Berkeley. Dr. He started his own group at Northwestern University in January 2015.

Research in the He lab is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms by which large, multi-subunit complexes engage in DNA-centric processes using cryo-EM and other biophysical, biochemical, and genomic approaches. We focus on two main topics: (1) how eukaryotic gene transcription is regulated at different stages, and (2) how various types of DNA damage are repaired and why deficiencies in these repair pathways lead to pathology of cancer predisposition or accelerated aging. Candidates who have recently finished or will soon complete their PhD degree with a strong research track record are encouraged to apply. Candidates with expertise in one or more areas of biochemistry, biophysics, or genomics are highly desired. While prior experience with cryo-EM, mammalian cell culture, or genome editing would be highly advantageous, we welcome researchers from all backgrounds.
