The Scientist III, Molecular Biology will be based in Guangzhou, China. He/she will take a leading role in verification and validation (V&V), transfer validation and benchmarking of molecular assays, instrument systems and consumables with the emphasis on molecular biology and sample prep methods. Projects will include both research use only (RUO) and in vitro diagnostics (IVD) products for Chinese market. The candidate will provide technical expertise on a project and department levels and will be expected to integrate into a dynamic and multidisciplinary team. The successful applicant is required to exhibit a results orientated attitude with the ability to thrive in the fast paced environment of biotechnology. The Senior Scientist will report into APAC R&D headquarters located in Singapore and be expected to work closely with Singapore V&V team. Successful candidate will possess advanced practical knowledge of molecular biology techniques, such as PCR, qPCR, capillary electrophoresis, nucleic acid extraction.
What will you do?
Leads V&V activities for instrumentation, consumables and reagents based on PCR, qPCR, electrophoresis and other molecular biology methods. Transfers existing test methods, protocols and best laboratory practices from Singapore R&D to laboratory in Guangzhou. Provides scientific expertise and leads evaluation of competitors’ and collaborators’ products. Visits potential collaborators in China as required. Represents verification and validation function on a project core team. Personally designs and conducts experiments using molecular biology methods and maintains laboratory notebook. Champions development of novel and improvement of existing test methods. Authors test protocols, reports and other project lifecycle controlled documentation. Problem solves using knowledge of technical product details, design control and basic regulatory issues. Exercises independent judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action. Utilizes statistical tools in experiment planning and analyzing complex data sets. Leads training and guidance of scientists and engineers; may review and approve other scientist’s work. Adheres to internal policies and procedures, as well as external quality standards (e.g., ISO 13485:2016, NMPA requirements). How will you get here?
I. Education
Ph.D in Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Chemistry or similar. Lower degree is acceptable for candidates with relevant work experience. II. Experience
At least 3 years of biotechnology industry experience with a track record of product development. Sound knowledge and experience in common molecular biology and biochemistry methods. Working knowledge of biostatistics techniques and tools (e.g., JMP, R). III. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Understands biotechnology product lifecycle and roles of key project team members. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Fluent in spoken and written English and Mandarin Chinese. Familiar with design of experiments (DOE) principles is desired. Understanding of ISO 13485 and ISO 9001 quality standards. Ability to work well in diverse teams. Self-motivated, results oriented individual who is able to work with minimal supervision.
