A technical sales Oceanographer at Sea-Bird Scientific provides expert advice to customers and is a key collaborator with all branches within the company. This position works closely with the other Technical Sales Team members, as well as Science, R&D, Support, Product Management, Calibration, Service, and Sales & Marketing team members. This person reports to the China Sea-Bird Scientific Manager and has a secondary line of responsibility to the Sea-Bird Scientific Technical Sales Director. A Technical Sales Oceanographer is accountable for the following:
• Serve as a liaison in China between Sea-Bird Scientific, customers and the scientific community.Provide guidance for system design and implementation, application, and data analysis in coordination with other sales associates, scientists, and customer support staff within the company. Some business travel and occasional sea-going travel possible. • Identifies new sales opportunities and is a representative for voice of the customer within the company. • Assists sales team with customer service and product applications, exhibition/conference attendance and technical sales interactions. • Authors papers, posters and gives presentations in a scientific capacity while representing company at professional science conferences, exhibitions, and meetings. • Responsible for product demonstrations and teaching introductory and advanced workshops on sensors, instruments and systems. • Performs analysis on oceanographic data sets; assists customers with data processing and analysis at all levels as required. • Works as needed with the Science,R&D staff and the product management team to ensure that instruments are optimized for the highest quality data possible through validation and laboratory and field testing. • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
The candidate must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
• M.S. or Ph.D. in Oceanography with demonstrated professional experience in oceanographic research including project management, field studies, theoretical studies, data analysis and data management; preferred experience in observational ocean measurements. • Experience using CTDs and Sea-Bird Scientific products. Experience using other types/brands of instruments is desirable. • Sales experience in a technical capability is desirable. • Fluent in Mandarin and English • Strong scientific writing skills and a publication record of research related to acquiring and analyzing physical measurements in natural waters. • Strong public speaking skills and experience giving scientific presentations at professional conferences and meetings.

• Ability to work independently and to manage and complete projects on time with little or no supervision. • Must be able to operate proficiently Windows/Linux operating systems. • Ability to travel to the US when needed • Must be willing and able to travel nationally and internationally throughout the year (Average 2 trips per year +/- for periods of 2-10 days).
