A single result with one wavelength may say your answer is 0.5 ppb, but how do you know that this a meaningful or correct value? For years analysts have made ICP analyses with one wavelength and had no means of validating the answer. In recent years, solid state detectors have made the possibility of using multiple lines for the determination to validate a result and insure that interferences were not present.
