Overthepastyears,electronicnosetechnologyopenedthepossibilitytoexploitinformationonaromaattributetoassessfruitripeninstageduringstorage.Theobjectiveinthisstudywastoevaluatethecapacityofelectronicnoseinmonitoringthechangeinvolatiproductionofmandarinduringdifferentstoragetreatments,andstorageshelf-lifeofmandarinwasevaluatedbymeasuringthechangeivolatileproductionofmandarinusingelectronicnosedevice(PEN2).Bycomparing,storageshelf-lifeofmandarinwasbettdistinguishedusingLinearDiscriminantAnalysis(LDA)thanPrincipalComponentAnalysis(PCA).PCAandLDAanalysiswerefcienttoclassifymandarinwiththesamestoragetimeinitsrespectivegroups;butthemethodsarenotefcienttoseparatethmandarinsbydifferentstoragetimes.Thecorrelationbetweenthemeasuredandpredictedvaluesoffruitqualityattribute(suchasolublesolidcontent,acidityandcompressionforce)showspoortoreasonablepredictionperformancebymeansofelectronicnossignals.Theresultsprovethatsensors2,7and9intheelectronicnosePEN2formandarinhaveahigherinuenceinthecurrentpatterle.Hence,nearlyasubsetoffewsensorscanbechosentoexplainallthevariance.Thisresultcouldbeusedinfurtherstudiestooptimizthenumberofsensorsandndbetterperformance.
