Overthepastyears,electronicnosetechnologyopenedthepossibilitytoexploitinformationonbehavioraromatoassessfruitripening stage.Theobjectiveinthisstudywastoevaluatethecapacityofelectronicnosetomonitoringthechangeinvolatileproductionofmandarin duringdifferentpicking-date,usingaspeci?celectronicnosedevice(PEN2).Principalcomponentanalysis(PCA)andlineardiscriminant analysis(LDA)wereusedinordertoinvestigatewhethertheelectronicnosewasabletodistinguishamongdifferentpicking-date(ripeness states).Theloadingsanalysiswasusedtoidentifythesensorsresponsiblefordiscriminationinthecurrentpattern?le.Theresultsobtained provethattheelectronicnosePEN2candiscriminatesuccessfullydifferentpicking-dateonmandarinusingLDAanalysis.But,electronic nosewasnotabletodetectacleardifferenceinvolatilepro?leonmandarinusingPCAanalysis.DuringexternalvalidationusingLDAwas obtainedtoclassi?ed92%ofthetotalsamplesproperly.Somesensorshavethehighestin?uenceinthecurrentpattern?leforelectronicnose PEN2.Asubsetoffewsensorscanbechosentoexplainallthevariance.Thisresultcouldbeusedinfurtherstudiestooptimizethenumber ofsensors.
