Semiquantitative analysis is a very powerful feature of ICP-MS, since it provides reasonable accuracy (±10 - 30%) without the need to run external standards. It scans through all masses (or selected masses) and reports concentrations for all elements, based on a stored elemental response database. It is especially useful for screening
unknown samples, or for evaluating new matrices sample types. It is also useful for determining the concentrations of calibration standards to be prepared for quantitative analysis.
