What level of acid concentration can be used in ICP?
Below mentioned list gives an overview of the acidic compounds level that can be used in ICP . These are general recommendation and incase of any specific compounds refer to Agilent
Nitric acid: Up to 40%. This is most suitable for ICP-MS analysis.
Hydrochloric acid: Up to 18%. However, avoid using if possible. As chlorine compounds may cause blockages, if used, evaporating the hydrochloric acid is recommended. However, care is required as metallic chlorides may also volatize.
Hydrofluoric acid: Up to 30% if a hydrofluoric acid resistant kit is used.
Sulphuric acid: Up to 1%. Use is strongly discouraged.
Phosphoric acid: Up to 0.1%. Use is strongly discouraged.
Nitrohydrochloric acid: Dilute by 3 to 10 times. Treating in the same way as hydrochloric acid is recommended.
