Investigations by the Swedish Chemicals Agency (KemI) have found excessive levels of lead in consumer electronics and toys imported to Sweden.

The agency found lead in concentrations exceeding the legal limit in 22% of consumer products tested. This constituted 17 electrical toys out of 79 tested, eight out of 29 electronic products and two out of 21 lamps. KemI has reported the companies responsible for the import of these products to the police.

The study is part of a larger EU project to check compliance with the rules of the restriction of hazardous substances (RoHS) in electrical and electronic equipment Directive. The results of this project will be published later this year
