These are Zinc Oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles, magnified 23,000 with gold contamination
by complete serendipity, the gold shouldn't be there! The picture was taken
using an Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The gold shows
up as very bright spots and may well of affected shape and clarity of the
ZnO nanoparticles during synthesis of the ZnO thin film on a glass substrate.
