    Oxophilicity is the tendency of certain chemical compounds to form oxides by hydrolysis or abstraction of oxygen, often from organic compounds. The term is usually used to describe metal centers, commonly the early transition metals such as titanium, niobium, and tungsten. Oxophilic metals are classified as "hard" within the HSAB concept. Many main group compounds are also oxophilic, such as derivatives of aluminium, silicon, and phosphorus(V). The handling of oxophilic compounds often requires air-free techniques.

    Recently the great progress of olefin polymerization has been made with the advent of low oxophilic late |transition metal catalysts.

    For Promoted Rh-Catalysts, IR bands of adsorbed CO and Rh dispersions were examined. Results reavel that IR bands of bridging CO shift down and broaden in the following sequence :Rh-Mn>Rb-Mn-Fe-Li>Rh-Fe>-Rh-Li>Rh. This could be used as a measurement of ox-ophility of catalysts. A formyl adspecies was detected by IR on very oxophilic metal, Mn, promotedcatalyst. By based on these results. promoted effects and mechanism of syngas conversion to ethano! were discussed.
